TUPAC MURDER TRIAL BEGINS AFTER NEARLY 30 YEARS

  

The murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the only person formally charged in connection with the 1996 killing of hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur, has begun in Las Vegas.
During opening arguments, prosecutors told jurors that Davis orchestrated the shooting as an act of revenge following a confrontation earlier that night at the MGM Grand.
According to prosecutors, Tupac and members of his entourage had assaulted Davis' nephew, Orlando Anderson, during the confrontation. Prosecutors allege that Davis subsequently helped organize a retaliation attack and provided the firearm used in the shooting.

Tupac was shot in a drive-by attack on September 7, 1996, while riding in a BMW driven by Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight. He died six days later at the age of 25.

Davis, now 63, has pleaded not guilty. Importantly, prosecutors are not accusing him of being the gunman; their case is that he helped orchestrate and facilitate the killing. The identity of the person who actually fired the fatal shots remains a disputed issue.
The prosecution is expected to rely heavily on statements Davis made over the years, including comments in interviews and his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend. His defense has argued that those statements should not be treated as reliable admissions.
The trial could last several weeks and is being closely watched around the world because Tupac's killing has remained one of hip-hop's most enduring mysteries for nearly three decades.

PETER OBI DENIES ASKING SOLDIERS TO REJECT SALARY INCREASE UNTIL AFTER 2027

Presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed as false reports claiming that he urged Nigerian soldiers to reject the recently approved salary increase for members of the Armed Forces until after the 2027 general election.

Obi said his respect for Nigeria's security forces remains unwavering, stressing that he has consistently advocated better equipment, improved welfare, motivation and protection for military personnel.

The former Anambra State governor said his actual concern has been the safety of soldiers operating in dangerous areas, particularly cases where military personnel have reportedly been left vulnerable during insurgency operations.
He maintained that, if elected president, the welfare, resources, safety and dignity of Nigeria's soldiers would be a major priority.
Obi urged Nigerians to disregard the report, describing the claim attributed to him as misleading.

A video showing Haitian immigrant Monsanto Maler breaking down in tears after an immigration check-in in Blue Ash, Ohio, has drawn widespread attention online.

Maler was reportedly fitted with an electronic ankle monitor after attending an appointment with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Sunday.

Video footage shows him collapsing to the ground and crying outside the facility, while people nearby looked on.

The emotional scene has renewed attention on the experiences of immigrants navigating the United States immigration enforcement system, particularly Haitians whose immigration status remains uncertain.

The use of electronic monitoring is one of the tools used by U.S. immigration authorities to monitor some individuals in immigration proceedings outside detention.

Scenes of jubilation erupted in Glasgow, Scotland, as Nigerian athletes and supporters celebrated another successful outing by Team Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

FCT Police Recover Stolen Public Infrastructure, Crack Down on Fake Government Number Plates

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against infrastructure vandalism and the illegal use of official government and diplomatic number plates.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the Command had recovered stolen public infrastructure, including drainage covers, solar street lights, armoured electricity cables, and internet communication cables, during coordinated operations across Maitama, Garki, Durumi, Jabi, Apo Legislative Quarters, Lugbe, and Nyanya.

Five suspects were arrested in connection with the recoveries and are currently assisting investigators.

According to the Police, the theft of critical public infrastructure has contributed to road accidents, power outages, increased insecurity in poorly lit areas, and significant economic losses.

The recovered items will be handed over to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for reinstallation and restoration of essential public services.

Police Uncover Illegal Diplomatic Number Plate Network

The Commissioner also disclosed that the Command had uncovered a network involved in the unauthorized production and use of official government and diplomatic number plates.

He said investigations revealed that some individuals were using the fake plates to conceal their identities, evade security checks, and facilitate criminal activities within the Federal Capital Territory.

Several unauthorized number plates have been confiscated, while suspects remain in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations and prosecution.

CP Sanusi warned scrap dealers, buyers of stolen public property, and those involved in the illegal production or use of government number plates that the Police would continue to dismantle criminal networks responsible for economic sabotage.

He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to strengthening public safety and reducing crime across the Federal Capital Territory.

Prophet El-Buba Launches 20 Security Outposts, CCTV Network to Boost Community Safety in Jos

 

Community security efforts in Jos North Local Government Area have received a major boost following the commissioning of more than 20 security outposts, the deployment of a CCTV surveillance network, and the inauguration of 10 patrol motorcycles to support volunteer security operations.

The initiative was unveiled on Thursday, July 30, by the Founder and President of the Evangelical Biblical Outreach Ministries International (EBOMI), Prophet Isa El-Buba, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community policing and improve public safety across the metropolis.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Prophet El-Buba said the project is designed to complement the work of conventional security agencies by enhancing intelligence gathering, improving surveillance, and enabling faster responses to emergencies in communities vulnerable to criminal activities.

According to him, the newly installed CCTV cameras have been strategically positioned across key locations in Jos North to monitor suspicious activities, deter crime, and provide valuable information that can support security agencies during investigations.

In addition to the surveillance system, ten branded patrol motorcycles have been handed over to members of the Peace Ambassadors Joint Task Force, a volunteer security outfit that works with communities and security agencies through neighbourhood patrols, intelligence gathering, and conflict prevention initiatives.

Prophet El-Buba emphasized that safeguarding lives and property is a shared responsibility, calling on residents to work together with security agencies and community volunteers to sustain peace and security across Plateau State.

Community leaders and residents who attended the event welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely investment that could strengthen public confidence, improve crime prevention, and contribute to a safer environment for families and businesses.
