FCT Police Recover Stolen Public Infrastructure, Crack Down on Fake Government Number Plates

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against infrastructure vandalism and the illegal use of official government and diplomatic number plates.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the Command had recovered stolen public infrastructure, including drainage covers, solar street lights, armoured electricity cables, and internet communication cables, during coordinated operations across Maitama, Garki, Durumi, Jabi, Apo Legislative Quarters, Lugbe, and Nyanya.

Five suspects were arrested in connection with the recoveries and are currently assisting investigators.

According to the Police, the theft of critical public infrastructure has contributed to road accidents, power outages, increased insecurity in poorly lit areas, and significant economic losses.

The recovered items will be handed over to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for reinstallation and restoration of essential public services.

Police Uncover Illegal Diplomatic Number Plate Network

The Commissioner also disclosed that the Command had uncovered a network involved in the unauthorized production and use of official government and diplomatic number plates.

He said investigations revealed that some individuals were using the fake plates to conceal their identities, evade security checks, and facilitate criminal activities within the Federal Capital Territory.

Several unauthorized number plates have been confiscated, while suspects remain in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations and prosecution.

CP Sanusi warned scrap dealers, buyers of stolen public property, and those involved in the illegal production or use of government number plates that the Police would continue to dismantle criminal networks responsible for economic sabotage.

He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to strengthening public safety and reducing crime across the Federal Capital Territory.

Prophet El-Buba Launches 20 Security Outposts, CCTV Network to Boost Community Safety in Jos

 

Community security efforts in Jos North Local Government Area have received a major boost following the commissioning of more than 20 security outposts, the deployment of a CCTV surveillance network, and the inauguration of 10 patrol motorcycles to support volunteer security operations.

The initiative was unveiled on Thursday, July 30, by the Founder and President of the Evangelical Biblical Outreach Ministries International (EBOMI), Prophet Isa El-Buba, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community policing and improve public safety across the metropolis.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Prophet El-Buba said the project is designed to complement the work of conventional security agencies by enhancing intelligence gathering, improving surveillance, and enabling faster responses to emergencies in communities vulnerable to criminal activities.

According to him, the newly installed CCTV cameras have been strategically positioned across key locations in Jos North to monitor suspicious activities, deter crime, and provide valuable information that can support security agencies during investigations.

In addition to the surveillance system, ten branded patrol motorcycles have been handed over to members of the Peace Ambassadors Joint Task Force, a volunteer security outfit that works with communities and security agencies through neighbourhood patrols, intelligence gathering, and conflict prevention initiatives.

Prophet El-Buba emphasized that safeguarding lives and property is a shared responsibility, calling on residents to work together with security agencies and community volunteers to sustain peace and security across Plateau State.

Community leaders and residents who attended the event welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely investment that could strengthen public confidence, improve crime prevention, and contribute to a safer environment for families and businesses.

JMDB Gives 7-Day Deadline to Remove Illegal Roadside Structures Across Jos

 

The Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) has announced the enforcement of a ban on illegal roadside structures across the Jos metropolis, giving affected operators seven working days to vacate designated public spaces.

According to the Board, the enforcement targets un

approved kiosks, canopies, umbrellas, makeshift stalls, car wash points, car sales stands, and other temporary structures erected on highway setbacks, road medians, roundabouts, and other government-reserved areas.

JMDB said the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to restore order, improve urban planning, enhance road safety, and ensure the free flow of traffic within the metropolis.

The Board warned that operators who fail to comply within the stipulated seven-day period will face enforcement actions, including the removal of illegal structures and other sanctions in line with existing regulations.

Residents and business owners have been urged to cooperate with the authorities as the government continues its urban renewal programme aimed at creating a cleaner, safer, and more organized city.

At Least 30 Killed as Gunmen Attack Kaduna Community

 

At least 30 people, including women and children, have been killed after armed attackers stormed Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in one of the deadliest attacks recorded in the area this year.

Residents said the attackers invaded the community late at night, opening fire indiscriminately before setting houses ablaze. Community leaders reported that eight children were among those killed, while several others sustained injuries. Some victims were reportedly unable to escape as their homes were engulfed in flames.

No group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack. However, northwestern Nigeria has continued to experience repeated assaults by armed criminal groups, commonly referred to as bandits, who frequently target rural communities.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani condemned the killings and directed security agencies to intensify operations to apprehend those responsible. He also ordered emergency relief support for affected families and called for stronger security cooperation along the Kaduna–Plateau border.

The latest attack has renewed concerns over the security of vulnerable communities, with residents calling for increased military presence and faster emergency response to prevent further violence. 

POLICE CONTINUE INVESTIGATION INTO DEATH OF JOS-BADED MODEL AS PUBLIC URGE TO SHARE VERIFIED INFORMATION

 

The investigation into the death of a Jos-based model, popularly known as Ibee, continues as police pursue additional leads and work to identify everyone who may have been present during the alleged assault.

The case has generated widespread public attention following the arrest and questioning of several suspects. Investigators are also reviewing videos and other digital evidence that may assist in establishing the sequence of events.

Meanwhile, posts circulating on social media have claimed that another individual seen at the scene has not yet been identified. MHTVC has not independently verified those claims or the identity of the person shown.

The Plateau State Police are expected to continue gathering evidence as the investigation progresses.

Authorities urge anyone with credible information that could assist the investigation to provide it directly to the police rather than relying on speculation or social media accusations.
